For many individuals in recovery, barriers that seem small to others can prevent them from participating in healthy activities. A Running Start works to remove those obstacles by providing essentials such as running shoes, athletic socks and clothing, water bottles, nutrition support, and assistance with race registration when needed. These simple resources open the door for participants to focus on their physical health, mental wellness, and personal growth.
Running offers more than exercise. It teaches discipline, perseverance, and confidence. Every mile completed becomes a reminder that recovery is possible and that progress happens one step at a time. Through accountability, encouragement, and shared goals, participants build meaningful relationships and discover a healthy community that supports long-term recovery.
That spirit of hope and transformation will take center stage on Saturday, August 22, 2026, during the upcoming A Running Start 5K at Coldstream Park. The event will benefit both A Running Start and the Hope Center, helping provide vital recovery services and support for individuals in need throughout the community.

The 5K will be more than a race. It will be an opportunity for the community to come together in support of recovery, healing, and second chances. Whether participants run, walk, volunteer, or sponsor the event, every person involved will help make a lasting impact on the lives of those working toward a brighter future.
Community support plays a critical role in making programs like A Running Start possible. Every registration, donation, and sponsorship helps provide resources that empower individuals in recovery to continue moving forward with confidence and hope.
If you would like to become a sponsor for the race, please contact Kara Ball, Director of Development at the Hope Center, at kball@hopecenter.org.
