More Than a Tax Write-Off

When people think about charitable giving, one of the first benefits that comes to mind is often the tax deduction. While tax advantages can certainly be a helpful incentive, supporting the Hope Center is about so much more than reducing your tax bill. Every gift made to the Hope Center is an investment in people.

More Than Her Past: Daphne’s Story of Purpose, Restoration, and Hope

When Daphne Robinson first arrived at the Hope Center, it wasn’t part of a plan. It was the result of a court order. But today, she describes that moment very differently.

More Than His Past: Sonny’s Story of Forgiveness, Purpose, and Legacy

When Hubert “Sonny” Bowling arrived at the Hope Center, it wasn’t his first time in treatment. But this time was different. “I was just tired,” he says. “People talk about rock bottom, but it only matters when you’re truly ready. And I was done.” After years of struggling with addiction, shaped by a painful and unstable childhood, Sonny reached a turning point. Arrested for a probation violation and ordered into treatment, he made a decision that would change everything.

A Running Start: Recovery, Community, and Hope in Motion

Recovery is not a journey anyone should have to walk alone. At the Hope Center, individuals are finding strength, encouragement, and accountability through a unique program that is helping change lives one step at a time: A Running Start. A Running Start exists to provide a supportive and empowering environment for individuals in recovery through structured running programs and community accountability. More than just a running group, the program creates a sense of belonging and purpose for participants working to rebuild their lives.

More Than a Bed, Marlon’s Story of Rebuilding

When people hear the name The Hope Center, they often think of a shelter. A place to sleep. A temporary stop. But for Marlon Wilson, his experience has been something entirely different. It has been more than a bed. It has been a turning point.

Serving Those Who Served Us

Having just celebrated Memorial Day, many of us paused to honor the brave men and women who have served our country. At the Hope Center, this season is also a reminder of the importance of standing beside veterans long after their military service has ended. For many veterans, returning home comes with challenges that are often unseen. Some face housing insecurity, struggles with mental health, difficulty finding stable employment, or the challenge of reconnecting with family and community. At the Hope Center, our Veterans Program exists to provide support, stability, and hope during those difficult transitions.

More Than Rehab

When I first came to work at Hope Center in August 2011, I knew of Hope Center as being a homeless shelter. I was aware of other programming but didn’t know a lot about it. Over the first several months, I spent a lot of time learning about the programs and began attending community meetings in the Men’s Recovery Program and started to get to know the clients and some of their stories. I didn’t take me long to learn that Hope Center was more than just a homeless shelter and more than rehab.

Volunteers are the heart of the Hope Center

When I first signed up to volunteer at the Jacobs Hope Cafeteria, I thought I would simply be helping serve food. I had no idea I would leave with a completely new perspective on the Hope Center and a deep gratitude for the services it provides. During my first shift, I quickly realized the importance of time, service, and giving back to your community—especially to the organizations that support it.

More Than a Donor

When people ask why I give to the Hope Center, the answer is simple and yet, it’s so much more than writing a check; it’s reaching out and touching a life. I give because I believe in dignity. I believe in second chances. I believe that every person deserves not just shelter, but hope, purpose, and the opportunity to rebuild their life.

Culture Is the Heart of the Work

At The Hope Center, we don’t just look for people who can do the job - we look for people who believe in the work. People who have a heart for our mission. People who understand that whether they’re doing outreach, providing services, cooking meals, or handling paperwork, they are making a difference in someone’s life every single day.

One Parent Scholar House: More Than a Place to Live

At the Hope Center’s One Parent Scholar House, we often say this program is more than a place to live. But what does that really mean? It means that behind every door is not just a resident or a family, but a story in motion. A parent balancing coursework and bedtime routines. A child growing up in stability, surrounded by opportunity. A future being built, one decision at a time.

What It Takes to Run a Modern Nonprofit

Leadership in the nonprofit sector is often described in terms of passion and purpose. While those are essential, they are only part of the equation. Leading a large, multi-service organization requires navigating constant tension between mission and margin, compassion and accountability, urgency and long-term strategy. At the Hope Center, that complexity is part of daily operations.
